Portage Iron Diamonds

Location
Portage, IN
Primary Rules Used
1858

The Iron Diamonds (located in Portage, Indiana on the extreme southern tip of Lake Michigan) were established in 2007 and are sponsored by the Portage Parks & Recreation Department. Our name is a compilation to remember and honor three references to Hoosier history in Northwest Indiana: 1) the railroads of the mid-19th century (a 'diamond' is a railroad term referring to the intersection of two rail lines); 2) the area's steel-making industry and 3) the men of the 19th Indiana Infantry that was part of the renowned Iron Brigade during the Civil War.

The Iron Diamonds will be playing ball on their home field in accordance to the rules of 1858. We will be striving to present to our fans a living history event meant to entertain and educate. Our emphasis will be to display the sport when it was meant as a social gathering for exercise and community pride with the ideals of true sportsmanship and gentlemanly behavior. For those coming out to watch an Iron Diamonds match, the game will be much more than a spectator sport. We hope to incorporate many of the fans into various aspects of the game.

We encourage everyone to come out and spend an afternoon with us as you enjoy a picnic lunch along the base lines or up on the centerfield hill that will provide a unique overview of the entire field during play. Please visit our website for our schedule and other detailed information.
