Keith Reilly is a teacher at George Fischer Middle School in Carmel, NY. He teaches 7th grade Social Studies and is the advisor of the Living History Club. Last year, they received a grant from Free Life International a health and wellness company, to begin a Vintage Base Ball club. The club consists of 18 students who research base ball, play the game and present the game for 7th graders in a June performance alongside Civil War Re-enactors. He purchased uniforms of the Mutual Base Ball club and the Gotham Base Ball Club. He also joined the Gotham Club last year to learn the game for himself. Fall of 2008, they played a game and made a mini-documentary of vintage Base ball at the Little Red School House in their district. The Schoolhouse dates back to the 1850's. They will be presenting at the school in June 2009. The local news has reported on the club and they have a video on lohud.com. They play by the rules of 1860. The club was designed for students to learn more about our national pastime and for students to gain an appreciation about the 19th century game. Students are motivated to learn about Base ball. Keith is also a teacher with the Living History Education Foundation and has taught on Civil War and Base Ball to teachers in Cooperstown, NY. ContactKeith Reilly |
