Iron Diamonds Of Porter County

Location
Portage, IN
Primary Rules Used
1858

The Iron Diamonds (located in Porter County, Indiana on the extreme southern tip of Lake Michigan) were established in 2007 and are sponsored by the Portage Parks & Recreation Department. Our club name is a compilation to remember and honor three references to Hoosier history in Northwest Indiana: 1) the railroads of the mid-19th century (a ‘diamond’ is a railroad term referring to the intersection of two rail lines); 2) the area’s steel-making industry and 3) the men of the 19th Indiana Infantry that were part of the renowned Iron Brigade during the Civil War.

The Iron Diamonds play their home matches in accordance to the rules of 1858. We strive to present to our community a living history event meant to entertain and educate. Our emphasis will be to display the sport when it was intended as a social gathering for exercise and community pride with the ideals of true sportsmanship and gentlemanly behavior. For spectators coming to view an Iron Diamonds match, it will be more than a spectator sport. We hope to incorporate many of the fans into various aspects of the game.

We encourage everyone to come out and spend an afternoon with the Iron Diamonds and their visiting adversaries as you enjoy a picnic lunch along the shaded baselines on beautiful Willow Creek Field in Portage’s Woodland Park (some home matches will take place at other venues throughout Porter County). Please visit our website to view the club roster, schedule, match recaps and how to become a part of the team.
