and we are a living history organization comprised of volunteer players. We are hosted by the Haun Museum, Jetmore, Kan., and several area merchants and associations. We believe that vintage base ball demonstrates the spirit and ideals of the early days of our national pastime: baseball. And we show how the game was intended to be played: in the spirit of good sportsmanship with manners and courtesy. Our uniforms are based on the styles of those seen in the mid to late 1860s. (Although wool was the standard fabric for most uniforms of that time period, we have chosen to use cotton, which is more durable and comfortable in the heat and wind of Kansas.) And we play by the rules adopted by the National Association of Base Ball Players in 1860. (To enhance the flow of the game, we also blend a few rules from 1870.) We chose this time period, because we believe it retains the character of the game. Our own research shows that several towns in our area, including Jetmore, sported organized base ball teams starting in the mid 1870s. So, we believe that playing vintage base ball also promotes our county's heritage as well. As with our predecessors, we field a spirited group of nine, who want to carry on our national pastime in a gentlemanly fashion. ContactJohn Ewy |
