The Eclipse BBC of Elkton is the re-creation of one of the first base ball clubs on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Originally founded in 1866, the Eclipse were a base ball club in every sense of the word originally having over 40 members of which to pick a first nine from. Today, the Eclipse once again brings base ball back to Cecil County. It plays its home matches by the rules of 1864 at Historic Elk Landing at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. We welcome all VBBA members who wish to come down for the weekend to challenge the Eclipse. The modern day Eclipse play a 36 match schedule which goes from April until the end of October playing about 2 weekends per month against other clubs up and down the east coast as well as across the country. The Elkton Base Ball Club has won the Maryland 19th Century Base Ball State Championship in 2007 and 2008. It will once again play in the 2009 Maryland State Championship Series against Havre de Grace, Chesapeake & Potomac, and Talbot as the Eclipse will face each club in home and home series. The Eclipse will also travel to Washington DC for the 3rd Annual DC Classic scheduled for August 1&2, 2009 on the Elipse. In addition it is planning overnight trips to Cooperstown and Williamsburg as well. Away matches at Cape May, NJ, Gettysburg, and Delaware will help to round out our road trips. The Eclipse welcome anyone ages 18 to 88 to join the club as a full member. Our Spring Training starts in Ocean City, MD on March 14th. Email us at eclipse@elktonbbc.com if you are interested in playing for the club or becoming a social member or sponsor. ContactBruce Leith |
