World Tournament of Historic Base Ball, August 3-5

Greenfield Village (Dearborn, MI, outside of Detroit) is hosting the 5th Annual World Tournament of Historic Base Ball, and a few spots for clubs remain open. The tournament is based on the original World Tournament of Base Ball, played in Detroit in 1867. As did the original tournament, we follow the rules for 1867 as presented in Haney's Base Ball Book of Reference.

Exhibition games for early arrivals are on Friday, and the tournament runs Saturday and Sunday. As in the original 1867 tournament, awards are presented for Champion, Reserve Champion, Farthest Distance Traveled, Finest Uniform, and Best Captain.

Each participating club will receive:

  • a stipend of $50 per day
  • Four (4) participant buttons per active participant (allows admission to both Greenfield Village AND to the Henry Ford Museum for the weekend and following Monday --see www.thehenryford.org for more about the museum and Village!--)
  • Discount coupons
  • Lunches for active participants

Each club is guaranteed 3 games (more depending on performance in the brackets), and Baseball Hall of Fame Broadcaster Ernie Harwell even calls some innings each day.

Interested clubs nationwide are invited to contact Brian "Gettysburg" Egen for more information, at briane@thehenryford.org. Also, see http://www.thehenryford.org/calendar/baseball/worldseries/ for more tournament information.
